ABOUT BRIGATA ITALIA
-- Brigata Italia, a container where provocative and innovative projects are presented, accumulated, shared and probed, believes that design shapes life. It is a dialectical and anthropological process that influences and determines the way we live.

Brigata Italia's "issues" explore elements and impacts of design through a fundamental tenant of our platform - a militant and partisan community. These issues depend upon collaboration and sharing communication as essential working tools.

-- Marco Moretti - Creative Director | Creative Director
Marco Moretti, man of mystery. Born and raised in Italy but always hating pasta (go figure), Marco studied Applied Arts at the Art Institute in Sassari (I) and Architecture at the University of Florence. In 1986 he founded the collaborative art group Frazione di Tempo, whose goal was to pursue experimentation through media and communication. The group created installations and performances for venues such as the Grand Palais in Paris, the Duchamp Gallery in Cagliari (I), the Museum of Contemporary Art USF in Tampa (FL), and later organized several artist events at Frazione di Tempo's loft in NY. Marco was also a co-founder of the Titanic Anatomy Studios in Tampa, which hosted a number of artist events and became the studio home to FDT (1990-94) as well as that of several other local artists. During these years Frazione di Tempo's work evolved towards design, and with the purchase of their first Mac, that was that - Marco led the group into the digital world. Frazione di Tempo moved to New York and the FDT Design studio was born.

Since then, FDT Design-Communication Architects has developed, under his Creative Direction, corporate identities, print mat, and web sites for many notable clients. In recent years Marco also extended himself outside FDTdesign acting as Art Director for NY Design studio SME Power Brand and as Creative Director for Neokom. Marco's life ambition is fueled by a strong sense of social consciousness and a devout appreciation for culture and aesthetics. Brigata Italia is his latest project, developed as an incubator to experiment ideas and promote dialogue about design.

-- Katherine Hill | Studio Manager
Katherine Hill grew up in New England where the picturesque landscape inspired creativity - and a desire for an urban life. She studied Fashion Design and Merchandising at Fisher Collage in Boston, and continued her education in Fine Arts at the University of South Florida, Tampa. Katherine also spent a year at the Students Art College International, Florence, Italy. While in Florence she met Marco Moretti and joined the conceptual collaborative art group Frazione di Tempo. Katherine used her fabricating skills in the creation of large-scale installations and initiated collaborations with artisans and everyday people. In 1990-92 she was the Director of the Center Gallery, USF. She co-found the "Titanic Anatomy" artists studios and the "Project Room", which with their massive space organized and hosted a number of artist events.

Katherine is the studio manager for FDTdesign Communication Architects and oversees the realization of projects and the handling of clients. Her latest accomplishment - the one of which she is the most proud (although Marco deserves half the credit) is the creation of FDT3, Lorenzo Hill Moretti.

-- Anna Arbuckle | Art Director
Anna Arbuckle is one of the cofounders of Brigata Italia and definitely the Cracking Whip behind getting all things done. Her first web contact occurred in 1996 with the cofounding of contour, a net radio station dedicated to electronic music and culture. Her whistle whetted by the confluence of new media, art and design, Anna moved on to an MFA from the New Media Fine Arts Program of the School of Visual Arts in Leipzig, Germany, and worked with the artist group Ramon Haze at the hybrid Workspace at Documenta X and has contributed to the widely traveled Vinyl Video adventure. Additionally, Anna was a visiting artist at MIT.

Anna has lived in New York since 1999. She actively dislikes throwing parties and the color purple and she likes bread and cheese in unlimited quantities, very bad TV, people watching, cooking, the New Yorker and of course New York.
